Week ending October 20, 2007

What's that old saying? "Life is what happens while your busy making plans" or something like that.  That was pretty much my week.  I really did have good intentions about spending more time on the Webcast Academy website.  But then life got in the way.  Hopefully next week will be more settled around the Dornberg household.

I had used Audacity before, but never looked at the ID3 tags until this week.  I'm also still confused about the bitrate this and 44100K that... too much verbage for me.  I think for me, HEARING a sample sound file in each of the different bit rates would be more meaningful than trying to make sense of all the numbers.  It's kind of like the difference between AM and FM radio.  AM is okay for talk shows, but I can't stand to listen to music on AM.  There's a trade-off between file size and audio quality up to a point-- but past that point I can't bring myself to listen to the audio file.  That's just my music background I guess.

I'm really intrigued by Skype.  I'm amazed at the ongoing conversation that fills up the Skype window each and every day.  I left a message about the problem I was having with Audacity, and sure enough, a couple of others left their advice for me.  It's like my very own tech support center.

I sure hope my audio works better with Skype tomorrow than it did last Sunday.  And one of these days I'll get all the settings figured out and discover what everything does in Skype.

And I really hope to get to know some of the other interns.  It's still pretty cool to think we have people from China and Spain and Canada and so many other places around the world helping each other.
